Dialogue with Death, The Yoga of the Katha Upanishad
Dates: January 21 – 23, 2022
Friday-Sunday
Instructor: Yoganand Michael Carroll, E-RYT 500, YACEP

The Katha Upanishad is an early Indian text and one of the first that calls its teachings ‘yoga.’ Many concepts are presented that were incorporated by later authors who developed Yoga practice, including the authors of the Yoga Sutra and Bhagavad Gita. The text tells the story of the precocious boy Nachiketa who has the privilege of asking Yama, the Hindu god of death, questions on the meaning of life. In response, Yama, teaches Nachiketa an early form of Vedanta and encourages him to seek his own deepest self.

Draw inspiration and increase your understanding of Yoga philosophy as we study this sacred text and incorporate its teachings into our group practices.

Program will include:

  • Group study of Katha Upanishad
  • Led meditations and morning practices based on the text
  • Discussions on how to incorporate what we are learning into practice as modern students of yoga

This course serves as an elective for the 300-hour program (20 hours), and earns the student 20 CEU’s with Yoga Alliance.

Musculoskeletal Assessment for Yoga Teachers
Friday, March 4 – Sunday, March 6, 2022
Instructors: Emily Gretz, MA, E-RYT500, YACEP, RCYT and Laura Libertore Tallman, DPT, 200-hour yoga teacher

This course builds upon a basic knowledge of anatomy. Students who have participated in Pranakriya’s 200-hour yoga teacher training will have a solid foundation for participation in this course. All students will be asked to partake in a series of quizzes prior to the start of the program in order to enhance or refresh their knowledge of anatomy in preparation for the start of Musculoskeletal Assessment. The time necessary to complete the quizzes are considered a part of the program’s 20 hours.

The intention is to further developing a teacher’s observational and assessment skills to enhance their personal practice and their work with students. These are most effectively used in a one-on-one environment, however the practitioner or teacher can also benefit from a greater understanding of assessment techniques for use in group settings. Students will learn musculoskeletal assessment techniques by developing their knowledge of the terms: mobility & flexibility, facilitated vs. inhibited, agonist vs. antagonist, symmetry, range of motion, tone vs. atrophy, balance and perceived source of pain. Learning will take place through group observation, yoga practice, and one-on-one assessments. Basic yoga postures will set the observation platform.

This course is a core curriculum requirement for Pranakriya’s 300-hour program (unless you took Holding Space prior to October 2020. In that case, it can be used as an elective). Completion of this course provides 20 CEUs with Yoga Alliance.

Ethics & Creating Inclusive Spaces
Sunday, March 20, 2022
9:00 am – 2:00 pm EST
Instructor: Amy Necci, MEd, E-RYT 200, RYT 500, YACEP

This five hour module will explore how using the tools from our own yoga practice can help us create a safe and more clearly defined space for ourselves and all of our students. Strengthening our own container (the witness) through various aspects of the practice deepens our awareness and understanding of our own preconceived ideas, biases, and judgements. Allowing ourselves to clearly see and accept the truth of who we are creates compassion and curiosity towards ourselves and others. The integration of this information fosters a more secure and solid base from which to act. When we feel whole and nourished physically, mentally, and emotionally, we respond from a more pure space and are better equipped to choose the most ethical path and create a space that is inclusive, and in turn, supportive of all.

Beginning January 1, 2022, this course is part of the required core curriculum for Pranakriya’s 300-hour certification. If you have already taken The Client Relationship prior to 2022, you do not have to take this course as a requirement and cannot use the hours as elective credit, though you can still receive YA credit. The completion of this course earns the student 5 CEU’s with Yoga Alliance.

Eligibility and Requirements

There are no application procedures nor registration fees to start our 300-hour program, and courses do not have to be taken in any specific order. After completing an approved 200-hour yoga teacher training, you may take the required courses as we rotate through them at any of our host studios, or online when permitted. After finishing each course you will receive a letter of completion. When you have completed your coursework you may register with us as a Pranakriya Professional Level Yoga Teacher.

There is a $50 registration fee to review your letters and issue your certificate. With this certificate you may register with the Yoga Alliance as a 300-hour graduate of a Registered Yoga School, earning the RYT-500 designation. We encourage teachers to participate in our training courses in a way that suits each one’s interest, time and financial well-being. Due to the nature of the advanced courses, we recommend students take three to four programs per year; completing certification in 3-4 years. We believe this allows for the greatest integration of the program material, opportunity to deepen your own practice, put the learning into your teaching and have time for reflection/questions before your next course.
