Let's Step into September Together

A message from Niisa Morton, Executive Director

Welcome to September and Happy New Year! I realize this is an unusual greeting for this time of year. However, September represents the start of a new year, a new school year, and this has more significance for me than New Years. It's a time where I make a fresh start, move the summer clothes aside, and step back into the school routine. Over the past 18 years, September has been a physical and energetic reset in my house. Beach bags are replaced by backpacks, flip flops for sneakers, and beach chairs for stadium seats. In a matter of a weekend my family's energy shifts and we go from lazy summer days to alarm clocks blaring, footsteps racing down the hall and a calendar full of commitments that puts any CEO to shame! Now, even though my kids are in college, this year is no different. Tuition bills are paid, the dorm move-in is complete, and graduate school applications are done. My to do list may have changed but the energy required to face another September is still just as intense.

All this change provides an opportunity for a fresh start, space to reconnect, and grow my personal yoga practice. Over the years, I have watched my practice wax and wane with the seasons. In Spring and Summer my energy is light and I can challenge myself and try new things. However, in Fall and Winter when things are busy, I feel heavy and tend to retreat, rest and receive. My practice also follows the seasons of my life, rising when keeping pace with my kids and commitments, and falling when taking time to care for loved ones. This is when I appreciate my Pranakriya practice the most. I found and cultivated a practice that allows me to ebb and flow through my seasons. Pranakriya has provided tools so I may adjust my practice to reflect the churning I am experiencing within, and to witness the energy around me. My ability to continually strengthen my container, physically and emotionally, and build resilience through flexibility is what I take off the mat as I step into September and start my new year. For today, it could be simply taking a deep breath, resetting my nervous system, and getting ready for any new adventure the New Year brings and that's exactly where I need to be.

As if Emily could read my mind, she and our amazing Pranakriya teachers have planned several opportunities in September to rest and reset. I invite you to join me as we step into fall and celebrate Serene September with Pranakriya. Stacee, Kim, Amy, and Usha have designed a series of special classes so we can come together as a community and experience the calming effects of sound healing, restorative yoga, yoga nidra, and a meditative, gentle practice that will allow you to explore your inner landscape. For a light, energetic playful practice, Linda and Katie are offering a fun-filled yoga event for the whole family! (This is really for any age.. just let your inner child come out and play!) The best part, 100% of proceeds will go to supporting The Hester Lee Furey Scholarship and the school! We are working hard to meet our fundraising goals for the year and this is another opportunity where you can support the school and spend time with others in our community.

So as we start this new season, I invite you to pause with me, take a deep breath, exhale, and let go of everything you no longer need. Let's step into September together to finish this year with a strong sense of belief in ourselves, our practice, and our Pranakriya community. I look forward to staying in touch with you through our newsletters and social media posts, and invite you to reach out to us with your thoughts, stories, and questions. May we finish 2026 stronger and more connected. I look forward to seeing you this Thursday for Soothing Sounds with Stacee!

Jai Bhagwan.
