Program Description
This course builds upon a basic knowledge of anatomy. Students who have participated in Pranakriya’s 200-hour yoga teacher training will have a solid foundation for participation in this course. All students will be asked to partake in a series of quizzes prior to the start of the program in order to enhance or refresh their knowledge of anatomy in preparation for the start of Musculoskeletal Assessment.
The time necessary to complete the quizzes are considered a part of the program’s 20 hours. This course builds upon basic anatomy with the intention of further developing a teacher’s observational and assessment skills to enhance their personal practice and their work with students. These are most effectively used in a one-on-one environment, however the practitioner or teacher can also benefit from a greater understanding of assessment techniques for use in group settings.
Students will learn musculoskeletal assessment techniques by developing their knowledge of the terms: mobility & flexibility, facilitated vs. inhibited, agonist vs. antagonist, symmetry, range of motion, tone vs. atrophy, balance and perceived source of pain. Learning will take place through group observation, yoga practice, and one-on-one assessments. Basic yoga postures will set the observation platform.
We invite yoga teachers from all traditions to join us for this program. This course is a core curriculum requirement for Pranakriya's 300-hour program (unless you took Holding Space prior to October 2020. In that case, it can be used as an elective). 20 YA CEUs.
